With the St. Louis Battlehawks loading up on weapons offensively, the team won’t be having one of their incoming running backs.

Max Borghi has informed the Battlehawks that he will not be playing in the 2024 UFL season, according to sources. Borghi has decided to pursue a new career and will not be playing football.

He joined the Battlehawks in December after playing the 2023 season with the XFL Houston Roughnecks. Borghi finished the regular season with 310 rushing yards and six touchdowns in eight games. In 2022, he played for three different NFL teams including the Indianapolis Colts, Pittsburgh Steelers and Denver Broncos.

During his four seasons at Washington State, Borghi ran for 2,158 yards and caught for 1,134 yards with 41 total touchdowns. He left the school tied for the most touchdowns scored in school history and second in career rushing touchdowns with 32.

It’s a big blow for St. Louis as Borghi was going in as the favorite to win the starting job. The Battlehawks do not have 2023 leading rusher Brian Hill on the roster. Borghi's versatility made him difficult to defend, whether he was making an impact in the running game or catching out of the backfield.

The Battlehawks running back room now consists of Mataeo Durant and Kevon Latulas. Durant would go in as the favorite after rushing for 117 yards for St. Louis last season as the backup. Latulas was drafted by the Battlehawks in the XFL Rookie Draft last summer.

With only two running backs on the roster, expect St. Louis to find another back in free agency to add depth.
