CM Punk & Cody Rhodes Are First To Enter Royal Rumble

The first two names announced for the upcoming men’s Royal Rumble are both former AEW stars.

Earlier tonight on Raw, CM Punk announced that he will be part of the Royal Rumble match in January. Cody Rhodes, who is seeking a long-awaited rematch against Roman Reigns, was the very first to declare that he would be part of the match.

Who could have imagined this two years ago? And wouldn’t it be remarkable if Punk and Rhodes were the final two in the Rumble?

In terms of their stories, it appears Rhodes and Punk are headed in different directions. Rhodes needs to find a way back to Reigns, though there is no guarantee he wins, especially when Jey Uso could plausibly cost him the match. Punk appears destined for a WrestleMania bout, perhaps even main event, against world heavyweight champion Seth Rollins.

After another compelling promo, Punk officially became a member of the Raw roster. This makes sense, as SmackDown has a new media rights deal, while Raw does not.

Punk brings loads of attention to Raw, making his acquisition look brilliant thus far. After Punk spoke, Rollins cut a biting promo on Punk, highlighting the tension between the two.

WWE is firing on all cylinders as the build to WrestleMania begins. Adding Punk back into the mix brings a combustible mix that has to be seen in order to believed.

As two of AEW’s most noteworthy stars now help drive the opposition into their most pivotal stretch, WWE is red-hot as it approaches the new year.
