Speaking on his bus before The American Nightmare documentary premiere, Cody Rhodes explains why the WWE championship would finish his story–and start an entirely new one.

“I’ve thought a lot about how beautiful that is, the idea to end the story,” says Rhodes. “But it’s also the beginning of a story. It’s a whole new story if we’re able to do that, if that moment comes.”

Rhodes wrestles Brock Lesnar this Saturday at SummerSlam. This is their trilogy bout, with the first match coming in May at Backlash, which Rhodes won in the main event, and the second taking place later month in Saudi Arabia at Night of Champions, where Lesnar won to even the score.

In addition to the main event match against Roman Reigns this past April at WrestleMania 39, this is the most prominent position Rhodes has ever had in any company, especially given the caliber of his opponents. A win against Lesnar on Saturday, if done right, could be the most significant moment of Rhodes’ career.
