Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em is the ultimate look at the best and worst matchups based on a PPR scoring system in fantasy football. This column will not cover the elite players in the NFL like Patrick Mahomes, Christian McCaffrey or Justin Jefferson. Instead, I'll look at the players you have questions about who could exceed or fail to meet expectations at each position. For all of your final fantasy lineup decisions, be sure to check out my weekly player rankings which will be updated daily throughout the 2023 NFL season.

Week 11 Start ’Em: Quarterbacks

Start of the Week

Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff
Lon Horwedel/USA TODAY Sports

Jared Goff vs. Bears (1 p.m. ET, Fox): Goff, listed as a start ’em last week, put up 21.1 points in a win over the Chargers. And that was on the road! Next up is a plus matchup against the Bears, who have allowed seven quarterbacks to beat them for more than 18 fantasy points, including six who have gone over 20 points. In what is going to be a productive game for Detroit’s offense, Goff is close to a must start.

Start ’Em

Dak Prescott at Panthers (1 p.m. ET, Fox): Prescott is on fire in recent weeks, scoring a combined 94.3 fantasy points in his last four games. That leads all field generals in that time. This week’s matchup in Carolina is actually not great, as their defense has allowed just two quarterbacks to beat them for more than 15.4 points. The opposition hasn’t been all that good, though, so stick with Prescott.

C.J. Stroud vs. Cardinals (1 p.m. ET, CBS): Stroud is one of the hottest signal-callers in the league, throwing for a combined 826 yards and six touchdowns in his last two games. I’d keep him active this week, too, as the rookie faces a Cardinals defense that's allowed 19 or more fantasy points to four quarterbacks this season, including Daniel Jones. Stroud should be considered a top 10 option.

Brock Purdy vs. Buccaneers (4:05 p.m. ET, Fox): Purdy broke out of his slide last week, scoring 23.8 fantasy points in a blowout win over the Jaguars. He’s in a good spot to shine again this week, as the young quarterback faces a plus matchup against the Buccaneers. Their defense has allowed the seventh-most points per game to enemy quarterbacks, so Brock should look Purdy good this weekend.

Sam Howell vs. Giants (1 p.m. ET, Fox): Howell has turned into this season’s big breakout fantasy quarterback, as he’s fifth in points after 10 weeks. I’d continue to roll with him this week, too, as he faces a Giants defense that just allowed nearly 38 fantasy points to Prescott. Big Blue is a beaten team with nothing left to play for in terms of the postseason, so expect Howell to post another solid stat line.

Week 11 Sit ’Em: Quarterbacks

Sit of the Week

Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence stands with his hands on his hips
Bob Self/USA TODAY Network

Trevor Lawrence vs. Titans (1 p.m. ET, CBS): Lawrence, listed as a sit ’em last week, scored a season-low 2.1 fantasy points in a loss to the 49ers. That stink bomb dropped him out of the top 15 fantasy quarterbacks on the season. I’d beware the well-locked field general this week, too, as the Titans have allowed an average of fewer than 15 fantasy points to the position over their last four games.

Sit ’Em

Russell Wilson vs. Vikings (8:20 p.m. ET, NBC): Wilson has been far better this season than what he produced in 2022, averaging 17 points per game. Still, he's subject to the matchups and the Vikings have been tough on quarterbacks lately. In fact, their defense has allowed just 15.2 points per game to the position over the last four weeks. At best, Wilson is a risk-reward, low-end starter due to the byes.

Geno Smith at Rams (4:25 p.m. ET, CBS): Listed as a start ’em last week, Smith posted his best stat line of the season with two touchdown passes and 24.1 points. He could come crashing back down to earth this week though, as he faces a Rams defense that’s fresh off a bye in Hollywood. The last time Smith faced them was back in Week 1, and he was held to one touchdown and 9.1 fantasy points.

Matthew Stafford vs. Seahawks (4:25 p.m. ET, CBS): Stafford is coming off an injury, but it looks like he’ll be back in action this week. Regardless, he’ll be tough to trust against the Seahawks. While their defense isn’t impenetrable, it has held Stafford, Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson to fewer than 15 fantasy points in games this season. At best, Stafford will be a No. 2 quarterback in super flex formats.

Baker Mayfield at 49ers (4:05 p.m. ET, Fox): Mayfield has quietly been solid in the stat sheets, scoring 18-plus fantasy points in three straight games. Still, I’d be wary of him this week in a road matchup against the 49ers. Their defense has been tough on quarterbacks, allowing the third-fewest fantasy points per game. Unless you’re in a super flex league, Mayfield is better left to the sidelines.
