Justin Herbert to Chargers? Here’s his Fantasy Football value

Justin Herbert joins Chargers as the No. 6 pick of the 2020 NFL Draft. What’s his fantasy football value heading into the season?

The Los Angeles Chargers selected QB Justin Herbert with the 6th pick of the 2020 NFL Draft. William Hill listed him as a -140 favorite to be the third QB taken. Herbert joins a Chargers team absolutely loaded with talent. He can throw to Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, Hunter Henry, and Austin Ekeler, to name a few.

Herbert may not get the opportunity to start right away, sitting for a few games behind Tyrod Taylor to start the season. However, if he starts mid-season he’ll be an intriguing waiver wire pick up in single-QB leagues. As far as his weapons go, their value won’t be as high as they were under Philip Rivers, but the ceiling is higher with Herbert at QB compared to Taylor.

Here’s why Shawn Childs ranked Herbert as his No. 4 QB:

Overall, his arm is NFL ready. Herbert looks to drive the ball downfield with velocity and accuracy. His next step is growth in his touch in the red zone while improving his decision making against better zone defenses. Herbert is a better runner than I first envisioned. He breaks pocket with acceleration and power, which will help score TDs in close and extend drives.

Los Angeles Chargers Stats to Know:

  • The Chargers’ RBs led the NFL in catches (148) and receiving yards (1,357) while placing second in touchdowns (9).
  • Their WRs finished with the lowest number of TDs (8) in the league, which came after scoring 22 touchdowns in 2018.
  • Keenan Allen scored six TDs in three straight seasons while averaging 101 catches for 1,263 receiving yards per season.
  • LA’s defense finished third in wide receiving yards (2,074) and WR catches (174) allowed.
  • The Chargers threw 20 interceptions (fourth most) while also losing 11 fumbles’ which led to them ranking last in the NFL in turnover margin (-17).
