CeeDee Lamb Will Help Amari Cooper’s Fantasy Football Value

The addition of Lamb will help Cooper live up to his lofty contract and boost his value in fantasy football

The Dallas Cowboys resigned wide receiver Amari Cooper a five-year $100 million contract and then a few weeks late drafted Oklahoma wide receiver, CeeDee Lamb, with the 17th overall selection. The addition of Lamb will help Cooper live up to his lofty contract and boost his value in fantasy football. Adding another viable option in the passing attack to go along with Cooper and Michael Gallup, should result in less double coverage for the Cowboys top playmaker.

How does this affect Cooper’s fantasy football value in 2020? Fantasy Analyst Corey Parson and CowboyMaven Mike Fisher discuss what fantasy football players should expect from Cooper in 2020.

Kaitlin O'Toole: Sports Illustrated is taking you inside the world of fantasy sports. Joining me now is cowboys' maven Mike Fisher and SI's fantasy and gambling analyst Corey Parson. Mike, let's talk about Amari Cooper. Will he still be the top guy in the Cowboys passing game this season?

Mike Fisher: You know, there's an old saying in football and it really relates to quarterbacks. People say, "Well, if you've got two starting quarterbacks, you don't have any at all," but in today's NFL, if you've got three number one receivers, that's good. In the end, they think Michael Gallup can develop to be an 'X' kind of receiver. They think Ceedee Lamb, there's people around here that say that he's Hall of Fame talent... And then Amari Cooper, obviously, has been a game-changer for them. Inconsistent in 2019, but, overall, looking at his body of work, he's been a game-changer.

Amari Cooper is going to start out as the number one guy on this totem pole, yet over the course of these three guys' careers together, the totem pole might get jostled up and down and sideways depending on what Sunday it is.

Kaitlin O'Toole: So Corey, as Mike said, Amari Cooper has been a little bit inconsistent in the 2019 season. Do you like him this season for fantasy purposes?

Corey Parson: Yeah, I do like him. I think he can be slept on because when you have that influx, especially with Ceedee Lamb coming in, people can think Amari Cooper's numbers will go down.

Listen, last year, 79 receptions, close to 1,200 yards. And last season, he played banged up a lot, too. He had three games, but you only had two targets. So I think you can get that catch number up over 80. Mike made an excellent point: as these guys' careers go on, you could see this move. But right now, Amari Cooper still is that guy. I still think he's a fantasy wide receiver 1. I think he's gonna be the guy to Dak Prescott looks to the most. I still think he's the most skilled guy of the bunch right there.

Yet, I think the other two are developing quickly. So, I think it's really the last chance to see Amari Cooper as a fancy wide receiver 1, and I would take him seriously going into this season.

Kaitlin O'Toole: All right, thank you so much for your insight. Good news for Cowboys' fans. A lot of targets to throw to this season. For more fantasy and gambling analysis, stay with us, SI.com.
