Closer Look: Titleist U-505 Utility Irons
In the continued pursuit of increased launch angles and spin rates, Titleist introduces four options in its new U-505 utility-iron line.
The U-505 line incorporates the best elements from tour player feedback to the original U-500 and U-510 irons, and were launched along with the new T200 long irons and T-Series irons (T100, T100-S, T200 and T300) on July 29.
The U-505 line is currently available for fittings, and will be available in golf shop starting on Aug. 26.
For the U-505, Titleist took feedback from the U-510 to design a club with a shorter face and shallow face. While there remains a wider sole, the club is designed to have a look that is more in line with Titleist's regular iron sets.
The U-505, which is Titleist's highest COR utility iron ever, is built with the company's improved Max Impact 2.0 technology to improve the overall hitting experience -- regardless of the contact point. Denser D18 tungsten weights allow for more efficient placement of the weight -- lower and toward the heel. Also, the U-505 has a thinner forged L-Face and hollower body than previous iterations.
The end result of these changes should produce a club better suited for crafting shots.
