In the early 2000’s, Antje Elle, a German who graduated from the Munich School for Fashion Graphic Design, and Baldovino Mattiazzo, a designer who studied fashion in Florence, fell in love with each other and the game of golf.

One offspring of their partnership is Duca del Cosma, a golf shoe and apparel brand in which Italian flamboyance meets German precision. According to the current owner, Frank van Wezel, “Our collections are inspired by the Italian way of living and produced with great attention to detail.”

Duca del Cosma is based in Vreeland, Netherlands, where Mattiazzo still creates his vision of innovative cross-over fashion for sports and business as the Head of Creative Design.

Van Wezel, founder of the international sports shoe brands Hi-Tec, Magnum, Interceptor, and 50 Peaks, had been developing golf shoes for world-class stars like Ian Woosnam, Padraig Harrington, Tony Jacklin, Laura Davies, when he came across the Duca del Cosma collection with its state-of-the-art styling and fit and acquired the company.

Duca del Cosma golf shoes are produced with leather from the best tanneries in Europe, Goodyear welted construction, merino wool soft linings, outsoles from durable rubber compounds, first class real cotton shoe laces and trendy colors.

Unaffected by the initial resistance, Mattiazzo has not shied away from eccentric patterns and wild colors. The color red, reminiscent of Italian emblems such as Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Valentino, and Vespa, is the signature color of Duca del Cosma’s designer golf and lifestyle shoes and apparel.

Red, the most visible color after yellow, is boldly present in the soles, laces and the entire pattern of the Monterosso (red mountain) men shoe and the Mimosa Passion Kiss woman shoe which sell for around $170.

Duca del Cosma applies similarly reasonable pricing to its Fairway hoodies, at $85, Buggy and Birdie polo shirts, $60-70, and its elegant long sleeves and sweaters, at around $60.

The KLM Open Collection, created in connection with the European Tour event played every September at The Dutch golf course in Spiljk, includes its own line of Kuba shoes ($170), hats ($25), and polos ($60).

With a solid foothold in Europe, Duca del Cosma is now in the process of expanding its distribution and ambassador’s program in the United States.
