After a week in Detroit, the PGA Tour stays in the midwest for one of its more enduring events, the John Deere Classic.

The event in the Quad Cities has been an official stop on Tour since 1972, and its highlights include a win by then-teenage Jordan Spieth in 2013 and a three-peat by Steve Stricker from 2009 through 2011.

The event enjoys strong local support and a longtime sponsor in John Deere, but the field tends to be compromised due to where it falls on the schedule. The British Open is in two weeks and most top players will sit out the John Deere Classic in order to rest and then head overseas next week for the Genesis Scottish Open.

Just nine players in the top 50 of the OWGR (five in the SI World Golf Rankings) are playing this week, led by Cameron Young. Russell Henley, Denny McCarthy, Sepp Straka and RBC Canadian Open winner Nick Taylor are also in the field.

The purse is $7.4 million with $1,332,000 awarded to the winner.
