The 2024 PGA Tour season gets underway this week in a familiar location—but with a twist.

The Sentry—formerly the Sentry Tournament of Champions—once again welcomes previous-year tournament winners to Kapalua, 39 in all. The signature event also has 24 players that qualified by virtue of finishing in the top 50 in FedEx Cup points, a new wrinkle for this year.

Without that wrinkle, Patrick Cantlay (No. 5 in the world) and Xander Schauffele (No. 6) wouldn't be eligible for the season opener.

Only two players in the FedEx top 50 aren't in the field. Rory McIlroy, fourth in points last year and a winner at the 2023 Genesis Scottish Open, is staying home. And of course Jon Rahm, who won the Sentry last year among four wins which also included the Masters, is gone after joining LIV Golf.

Rahm's departure meant that Mackenzie Hughes moved from No. 51 to 50 in points, making him eligible for the Sentry. The Canadian happily is heading to Hawaii.

The most recent Kapalua winner in the field is Harris English, the 2021 winner. Cam Smith, who won in 2022, is also with LIV Golf.

The full field for the $20 million no-cut event is below in this social media post from the Tour:
