Danny Lee is just two events into his LIV Golf career but he is already a winner on the breakaway tour. Lee, a member of Iron Heads GC, hasn’t won a golf tournament since the Greenbrier Classic in 2015, his only victory on the PGA Tour.

The 32-year-old sunk a lengthy putt from off the green to outlast a four-man playoff after finishing the 54-hole event at a total of  9 under par. Carlos Ortiz, Brendan Steele and Louis Oosthuizen also finished on that number, sending the foursome into a sudden death playoff.

Ortiz was knocked out after the first playoff hole with a bogey. Then, all three remaining players parred the second go-round, sending them back to the 18th tee for a third time. Finally, Lee emerged victorious when his long-range birdie attempt hit the flagstick and rolled into the cup.

Lee’s arms went into full extension as his Iron Heads GC teammates joined in for the spirited celebration.

Lee will take home $4 million for the victory

“I’m speechless right now,” Lee said. “I wasn’t even looking at the individual score all day. I was only asking about how our team was doing. That’s the reason why Kevin [Na] called, that’s the season why I came over here, to win as a team. We’re a little bit short on the team, but the individual victory means a lot.

“I haven’t won since 2015. I just felt like winning is just not my thing, but today just changed that. It’s just good to see I’m capable of playing some good golf again.”

In the team competition, Lee’s Iron Heads GC finished in third place behind Fireballs GC and the runner-up 4Aces GC.
