HERTFORDSHIRE, England – Summer travel means horror stories for golfers, especially when traveling through Europe.

The number of lost luggage stories is typically endless and something to which the average person can relate.

Earlier this week, Aine Donegan reported late-arriving golf clubs at the U.S. Women’s Open at Pebble Beach, where she discovered her driver broken upon opening her golf bag.

A different kind of travel burden happened to Marc Leishman, who upon traveling to Spain for last week’s LIV Golf Andalucia event learned that his luggage was lost via a connection in Dallas. Not wanting to take any chances, the Aussie declined to travel without his clubs, waited for them to be located, and took another flight knowing the tools of his trade were on board.

But the same wasn’t the case with his luggage.

That meant he played last week’s event at Valderrama wearing clothes he had purchased from the pro shop and a team-logo Ripper GC shirt from the public merchandise pavilion. Leishman's suitcase never made it to Spain.

Leishman's trip to England for the LIV London event didn’t go much better. His clubs arrived but his luggage apparently had gone to his home – in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

But there was a happy outcome as Leishman played the first round of the LIV London event on Friday.

“Finally got my shirt, my clothes,’’ said Leishman, whose luggage arrived as play began Friday. “My clothes didn't turn up in Spain. They turned up at my doorstep in Virginia Beach Sunday night, which was not much good to me because I was in London, so then it was sent over here.

“It turned up after one hole, I changed shirts and went on to birdie six of the next seven holes. So I guess I might have to wear this one again (Saturday).’’

Leishman shot 7-under-par 64 to trail his teammate and fellow Aussie Cam Smith by one stroke heading into the second round of the 54-hole event.
