Announced: Dennis Walters, as winner of the Bob Jones Award, by the U.S. Golf Association. Walters, of Jupiter, Fla., turned his paralysis at age 24 from a golf-cart accident into a career of using a trick-shot show to teach golf to millions worldwide since 1977. The Bob Jones Award, the USGA’s highest honor, recognizes an individual who demonstrates the spirit, character and respect for the game exhibited by its late namesake. Walters will be honored June 13 during U.S. Open week in Southampton, N.Y.

Revised: By the PGA Tour, its Champions Tour playoff format. The Charles Schwab Cup Championship, which had featured a points reset as the season’s final event, will offer double points for the 36-player field. The first two playoff events, the Dominion Energy Charity Classic and the PowerShares QQQ Championship, will offer $2 million purses and double points. The Schwab Cup final will feature a $2.5 million purse and double points. Last year, Kevin Sutherland, who had three runner-up finishes on the season, won only the season-ending tournament yet emerged as the season champion over Bernhard Langer, whose seven victories included the first two playoff events.
