Found: The body of Celia Barquin Arozamena, the reigning Big 12 Conference women’s golf champion, on a golf course in Ames, Iowa. Collin Daniel Richards, 22, who has no known address, was charged Tuesday with first-degree murder and jailed on a $5 million cash-only bond in connection with the death. Barquin, 22, a student at Iowa State and resident of Puente San Miguel, Spain, was found Monday in a pond at Coldwater Golf Links, where she had been playing a round alone. Barquin completed her college eligibility last season, when she won the Big 12 title and was named Iowa State’s female athlete of the year. She was finishing her studies in civil engineering. Barquin had stab wounds to her upper torso, head and neck, according to The Associated Press, which cited the criminal complaint. Iowa State’s women’s team withdrew from the East & West Match Play Challenge in Ann Arbor, Mich., and returned home.
Announced: By the PGA of America, that Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md., will play host to eight PGA tournaments in the next two decades. In the agreement, the Ryder Cup (2036), PGA Championship (2031), Women’s PGA (2022, ’27), Senior PGA (2025, ’33), PGA Professional Championship (2029) and the Junior PGA (girls and boys, 2024) will be played at Congressional’s Blue Course.
