Justin Rose and wife sponsor British women’s tour

7-event Rose Ladies Series, seeded with $44,500 from the Roses, will begin June 18, London’s Telegraph reports

Committed: By Justin Rose and his wife, Kate, to sponsor a seven-tournament series for British female golf professionals starting June 18, according to a report by Kate Rowan of London’s The Telegraph newspaper. The Rose Ladies Series includes a stop at Royal St. George’s Golf Club in Sandwich, which would have hosted the British Open next month. That tournament was canceled by the R&A as the European Tour suspended its schedule until late next month. England’s Rose, the 2013 U.S. Open champion and the 2016 gold medalist in the Olympic Games, is contributing £35,000 (about $44,500) into the series for prize money, and the seven courses are donating their facilities’ use. Sky Sports intends to cover the events, which will limit access to players and essential personnel out of social-distancing concerns amid the coronavirus pandemic. “I am keenly aware that I now have the opportunity to go back to work and compete on the PGA Tour, but this is not the same for the ladies and some junior tours as well,” said Rose, who also sponsors a junior tour in the U.K. Rose’s wife was a European-champion gymnast.
