2020 3M Open: Viewer’s guide, TV times, how to watch
After great drama and excitement last week in the Memorial at Muirfield Village Golf Club, the PGA Tour visits TPC Twin Cities near Minneapolis this week for the 3M Open.
Last year’s inaugural 3M Open was captured by former Oklahoma State sensation Matthew Wolff, who narrowly beat Collin Morikawa and Bryson DeChambeau – both of whom already have won in July. Alas, of the three 20-something contenders last year, only the defending champion will be returning for the second edition of the 3M Open (tee times).
Four of the top 20 players in the Official World Golf Ranking will headline the field. No. 4-ranked Dustin Johnson and No. 17 Tony Finau of the U.S. will be grouped with No. 12 Tommy Fleetwood of England in the 3M’s power pairing. (No. 6 Brooks Koepka also is entered.) Fleetwood is emerging from a four-month hiatus during the global coronavirus pandemic and recently completed a two-week quarantine stateside. It should be interesting to see how much rust Fleetwood, who is No. 12 in the world order, can shake off leading up to the PGA Championship in two weeks.
Speaking of rust, if you had to pick one player who could shoot 80-80, miss the cut and turn around to win the next week, there might be no one higher on your list than Johnson. Four weeks ago, he won the Travelers Championship before last week’s hasty exit from Dublin, Ohio.
Finau will be returning to a course where he shot four rounds in the 60s en route to that last year saw him fire four straight rounds in the 60s en route to a T-23 finish. He will need to go deeper at TPC Twin Cities to win his second PGA Tour title.
Golf Channel and CBS will handle the broadcast duties of the seventh consecutive spectator-free event since the season restart last month. The first and second rounds will be shown by Golf Channel. The weekend rounds will feature early coverage from Golf Channel before CBS picks up the coverage.
