2020 Tour Championship: Payouts, prize money for East Lake

Winner will receive $15 million from a $45 million purse to be distributed among the top 30 players in the FedEx Cup standings

The rich definitely will get a great deal richer this week as the PGA Tour wraps up its big-bucks FedEx Cup playoff series with the Tour Championship. Play begins Friday at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta (tee times).

Along with the pride of winning the PGA Tour’s season title, the champion to be crowned on Labor Day will win $15 million from the $45 million purse to be split among 30 players. How big is the prize fund? Last place will be worth $395,000. That’s nearly $100,000 per round for finishing dead last.

Yes, the top 30 in the FedEx Cup standings have played their way into this event, which will use a weighted scoring system in which points leader Dustin Johnson will start at 10 under par and two strokes ahead of No. 2 Jon Rahm. Just days after their showdown in the final round of the BMW Championship, they will be paired together in the anchor two-ball in Friday's first round.
