2020 Sanderson Farms Championship: Latest betting odds, favorites and sleeper picks for Country Club of Jackson
We are back to the betting corner after another one-week hiatus following the 2020 U.S. Open, in which Bryson DeChambeau obliterated every notion we held on how to win at Winged Foot.
We selected three guys who consistently find the fairway, which is what we thought was needed on the famed West Course. Even with Brendon Todd notching a top-25 performance and Webb Simpson cashing a top-10 check, DeChambeau showed that brute force can win, too, no matter how hard the setup. Is this the beginning of a trend on the PGA Tour? We certainly will find out soon enough.
The subdued field this week for the Sanderson Farms Championship looks to be just a bit more talented than the one at the Corales Puntacana Resort event last week, no offense to winner Hudson Swafford. According to William Hill, the favorite is Scottie Scheffler, the PGA Tour’s recent rookie of the year, at 10-1. Scheffler, who withdrew from the U.S. Open after having tested positive for COVID-19, will look to accelerate his recent momentum with his first victory on the PGA Tour. Next is South African Louis Oosthuizen, a 14-1 pick who finished third in the U.S. Open. South Korea’s Sungjae Im, an emerging young talent and a 16-1 pick, lost in a playoff last year to Sebastian Munoz at Country Club of Jackson. Next, at 18-1, Will Zalatoris leads the Korn Ferry Tour points list and has posted two consecutive top-10s on the PGA Tour: T-8 at Corales and T-6 at the U.S. Open.
For our favorite, we’re going with Im at 16-1. After winning the Honda Classic on March 1 and placing third one week later at Bay Hill, Im had his momentum halted by the coronavirus pandemic. He began to regain form during the FedEx Cup playoffs and placed 22nd in the U.S. Open. Im nearly won here a year ago in a playoff, so look for him to continue to elevate his game to where it was last winter.
For a midrange pick, we are going with Munoz, at 30-1. This is a value pick, considering that the Sanderson Farms Championship has crowned a first-time Tour winner for six consecutive years. However, the defending champion finished the FedEx Cup playoffs with three top-20s, including eighth-place finishes at the Tour Championship and the BMW. Munoz should feel right at home in Jackson, Miss.
For a sleeper, we’re going with Norwegian Kristoffer Ventura at 80-1. Ventura has gained shots on the field in 10 of his past 11 starts. At the Safeway Open two weeks ago, he was just one back after 54 holes, before finishing T-7. Ventura has made six cuts in his past seven starts, with four top-25 results. Look for Ventura to hang around the leaderboard once again this week.
