American Rose Zhang wins amateur honor

California teen earns the Mark H. McCormack Medal as the leading female in the World Amateur Golf Ranking

Awarded: American teen Rose Zhang, with the Mark H. McCormack Medal as the leading female in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, the R&A and USGA announced Wednesday in a news release. Zhang, 17, of Irvine, Calif., won the U.S. Women’s Amateur in early August, two weeks before she rolled to a six-stroke victory at AJGA’s Rolex Girls Junior Championship. Last month, she was the low amateur at the LPGA’s ANA Inspiration, tying for 11th. With the McCormack medal, Zhang receives exemptions into next year's U.S. Women’s Open and the Women’s British Open. Last month, Japan’s Takumi Kanaya was awarded the men’s McCormack medal.
