USGA adds 20 amateurs to U.S. Women’s Open field
Added: By the USGA, 20 additional amateurs to the field for next month’s U.S. Women’s Open, the association announced Thursday in a news release. The players were chosen from the World Amateur Golf Rankings as of the Nov. 4 update and were not already exempt to play. No. 1-ranked Rose Zhang of the U.S. leads the exempt players after her victory at the 2020 U.S. Women’s Amateur and her winning of the McCormack Medal as the leading female in the WAGR. The 156-woman field will be composed entirely of exempt players because the global coronavirus pandemic prompted the cancellation of qualifying. The75th U.S. Women’s Open, the penultimate event on the LPGA’s revised 2020 schedule, is set for Dec. 10-13 at Champions Golf Club in Houston. Here are the players who were exempted via the WAGR: No. 1 Rose Zhang (Irvine, Calif.), No. 2 Ingrid Lindblad (Sweden), No. 3 Pauline Roussin-Bouchard (France), No. 5 Linn Grant (Sweden), No. 6 Emilia Migliaccio (Cary, N.C.), No. 7 Alessia Nobilio (Italy), No. 8 Ho Yu An (Taiwan), No. 11 Benedetta Moresco (Italy), No. 12 Agathe Laisne (France), No. 13 Maja Stark (Sweden), No. 14 Lucie Malchirand (France), No. 15 Beatrice Wallin (Sweden), No. 16 Olivia Mehaffey (Ireland), No. 17 Lily May Humphreys (England), No. 19 Kaitlyn Papp (Austin, Texas), No. 20 Emma Spitz (Austria), No. 22 Caterina Don (Italy), No. 23 Amelia Garvey (New Zealand), No. 25 Auston Kim (St. Augustine, Fla.), No. 27 Allisen Corpuz (Honolulu). The remaining spots were expected to be filled using the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings.
