Dustin Johnson withdraws from PGA Tour's AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am

World No. 1 Dustin Johnson takes week off after winning in Saudi Arabia, and Padraig Harrington tests positive for COVID-19

Withdrew: From this week’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Dustin Johnson and Padraig Harrington, the PGA Tour announced Tuesday. Without the world’s No. 1-ranked player, the annual stop on California’s Monterey Peninsula will have nobody among the Official World Golf Ranking’s top 10 scheduled to compete. Johnson, a two-time winner at Pebble Beach, won the European Tour’s Saudi International on Sunday. Harrington, who missed the cut last week at the Phoenix Open after a T-6 in Dubai one week earlier, tested positive for COVID-19, the Tour confirmed. “Following his successful week in Saudi Arabia, Dustin has decided it would be best to enjoy a week at home before The Genesis Invitational and the World Golf Championships at The Concession,” Hambric Sports Management’s David Hinkle, who represents Johnson, said in a statement. “Other than being a bit jet-lagged, he is feeling great and looking forward to the weeks ahead.” Johnson, 36, who won the Masters in November, has triumphed in four of his past eight starts worldwide. He was replaced in the Pebble Beach field by fellow American Jonathan Byrd. Harrington, a three-time major champion, will captain Europe’s Ryder Cup team this fall. He was replaced by South Korea's Sangmoon Bae. Patrick Cantlay, at No. 11 in the world, will be the highest-ranked competitor at Pebble Beach. The event will be played without spectators and the customary amateur field of sports and entertainment celebrities and business leaders (tee times).
