Virginia club to host 2024 U.S. Mid-Amateur
Awarded: By the USGA, its 2024 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship to Kinloch Golf Club in Manakin-Sabot, Va., the association announced Tuesday. Kinloch had been scheduled to host the 2020 U.S. Mid-Amateur, which was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The club was the site of the 2011 U.S. Senior Amateur, which was won by Louis Lee of Heber Springs, Ark. Kinloch, which opened in 2001, was designed by Virginians Lester George and Marvin “Vinny” Giles III, a renowned amateur champion. Independence Golf Club, in nearby Midlothian, Va., will serve as the stroke-play co-host for the 2024 U.S. Mid-Amateur, which will be played Sept. 21-26. The tournament will be open to amateurs age 25 and older with a Handicap Index of 3.4 or lower. The winner receives invitations to the next year’s Masters, U.S. Open and U.S. Amateur.
