Matthew Wolff gets DQ’d from Masters

American was not going to make cut, but he signed for a lower score than his bogey on par-4 17th, in violation of Rule 3.3b(3)

Disqualified: From the Masters, Matthew Wolff, for having signed for a lower score than what he actually made on the 17th hole in the second round, tournament officials said late Friday. Wolff was well outside of the 3-over cutline in the second round after he opened with a 76 on Thursday and shot 79 on Friday, including a quintuple-bogey 8 on the first hole. He made a bogey on the par-4 17th hole but signed for an undisclosed lower score, tournament officials said. Rule 3.3b(3) states in part that “if a hole score is lower than actually taken on that hole, the player is disqualified.” Wolff, an American and one-time PGA Tour winner who will turn 22 on April 14, was making his second Masters appearance. He is ranked No. 23 in the world. Wolff missed the cut last year in his debut at Augusta National after he tied for fourth in his PGA Championship debut and finished runner-up in the U.S. Open.
