Fred Couples followed up his strong opening round of 71 with a steady 2-over 74, and it was exactly what he needed to accomplish an incredible feat at the Masters

Couples, who won the green jacket in 1992, is making his 38th Masters appearance this week. Now, Couple has made the cut at Augusta National a stunning 31 times.

With the made cut, Couples set a new tournament record. At age 63—63 years, 187 days to be exact—Couples became the oldest golfer to make the cut at the Masters.

The 15-time PGA Tour winner surpassed Bernhard Langer’s record. Langer made the cut in 2020 when he was 63 years old and 80 days.

“I am excited to make the cut. That's why I come here. The last four years have been really mediocre golf. Maybe one year I was semi close to making the cut. But that's my objective, and I did it,” Couples said.

“It's not like ‘ha, ha, ha, now I can screw around and play 36 holes for fun.’ I'm going to try and compete. Play a good pairing with some younger guys and watch them play. Like I said yesterday, I played with Alex Noren and Russell Henley and couldn't have had a better pairing,” he continued.

The Houston Cougar hit 23 of 28 fairways in his first two rounds.

Couples, who completed his second round of the Masters on Saturday morning, will resume play for the third round on Saturday afternoon. The 36-hole cut line currently stands at 2 over par.
