LPGA’s Jessica Korda Out Indefinitely With Back Injury
Jessica Korda—the 32nd ranked player in the world and older sister of world No. 2 Nelly Korda—announced Sunday that she will take an indefinite break from LPGA competition due to a lingering back injury.
Korda, 30, took to Instagram to share the unfortunate news, which comes in the middle of her 13th season on the LPGA Tour. Korda last teed it up earlier this month at the Founders Cup, but she withdrew after shooting an opening-round 72.
“The last year has been an extremely challenging time for me as I struggle with an injury in my back. Following the advice of my doctor and the guidance of my physio, we’ve committed countless hours of treatment at home and on the road for me to try and get my body healthy and ready to compete each week.
“Unfortunately, we’ve reached point where the pain is not improving, forcing me to have to withdraw out of several tournaments. As a competitor, it is upsetting to have to do this time and time again.
“At the advice of my medical team, I have made the tough decision to stop playing until I can get my back fully healthy. At this point, we don’t have a firm timeline for my return but I’m working with the best of the best and am focused on coming back as soon as possible,” Korda wrote on Instagram.
Korda has six career wins on the LPGA Tour, including a victory at the 2021 Tournament of Champions.
Korda has been dealing with various injuries for quite some time. Last spring, she took a two-month hiatus from competition due to a rib injury. Then, in early November, Korda took to Instagram to announce that she’d be cutting her season short due to back issues.
After making a return at the HSBC Women’s World Championship, Korda’s best finish in seven starts this season was a T18 at the DIO Implant Open.
