Jim Furyk, a 17-time winner on the PGA Tour and veteran of U.S. Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup teams, has been named captain of the 2024 U.S. Presidents Cup team that will play in Canada next year.

Furyk, 52, will join Mike Weir, who has been named captain of the International team, at Royal Montreal Golf Club for the matches to be played Sept. 26-29, 2024.

The PGA Tour made the announcement Tuesday morning.

“Jim has been a role model and a tremendous ambassador for the PGA Tour during his remarkable career,” said commissioner Jay Monahan in a statement. “And given the role he has played in the growth and success of the Presidents Cup over the last 25 years as both a competitor and a captain's assistant, it’s fitting he will bring his leadership skills to Montreal in 2024 where he takes on the role of U.S. team captain.”

Furyk played in seven Presidents Cups, going 20-10-3. He served as an assistant captain to Jay Haas in 2015 and to Steve Stricker in 2017 before his U.S. Ryder Cup team captaincy in 2018. Furyk played in nine Ryder Cups with a 10-20-4 record.

Furyk holds the all-time PGA Tour scoring record of 58 shot at the Travelers Championship in 2016. He also shot 59 at the BMW Championship in 2013. He now competes on the PGA Tour Champions.

This will be the second playing of the Presidents Cup at Royal Montreal, where the U.S. team prevailed in 2007. The U.S. is 12-1-1 in the competition, with its last victory in September at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, N.C. The only U.S. defeat came in 1998 at Royal Melbourne in Australia. The tie occurred in 2003 at South Africa.

Furyk is the 10th U.S. team captain for the Presidents Cup, following Davis Love III, Tiger Woods, Stricker, Haas, Fred Couples (three times), Jack Nicklaus (four times), Ken Venturi, Arnold Palmer and Hale Irwin.
