The Cardinals tight end was an unlikely contributor to his friend’s victory.

Jon Rahm didn’t have an ideal start to the Masters. On the first hole of the tournament on Thursday, the Spain native four-putted for double bogey.

Needless to say, Rahm's recovery was swift and complete. He ended the first round seven-under, tied with Norway's Viktor Hovland and United States' Brooks Koepka for first place. When Koepka collapsed on Sunday, Rahm powered to a three-under final round and his first Masters title.

Then, and only then, was Rahm able to look back and laugh at a Thursday text from friend and Arizona Cardinals tight end Zach Ertz.

“He sent me a text, and I'm gonna paraphrase, that said ‘That first green is looking like a walk in the park right now’ 10 minutes before I four-putted to start the tournament,” Rahm said to laughter in his victory speech. “So thank you Zach. Don't ever do that again, please.”

Ertz was a good sport about the ribbing, pledging on Twitter to do whatever it takes to help his friend build on his pair of major victories.
