Jordan Spieth is joining the PGA Tour’s Policy Board in the wake of Rory McIlroy’s resignation.

According to an email first obtained by Golf Channel’s Rex Hoggard, Spieth has been elected to fill McIlroy’s player director position through 2024. Sports Illustrated confirmed the news.

The message from commissioner Jay Monahan was shared with PGA Tour players on Monday morning following the conclusion of the FedEx Cup Fall season.

“With Rory McIlroy resigning from the PGA Tour Policy Board last week, per the PGA Tour Tournament regulations, the five remaining Player Directors have elected Jordan Spieth to serve the remainder of Rory’s terms which expires at the end of 2024.

“Jordan has extensive experience with the Tour’s governance process, having served two years on the Player Advisory Council (2017-2018) including PAC Chairman in 2018 and three years (2019-2021) as a Player Director,” the email read.

Spieth will join Tiger Woods, Patrick Cantlay, Peter Malnati, Webb Simpson and Adam Scott as the 2024 player directors.

Last week McIlroy announced his resignation from the board, citing “professional and personal commitments” as the reason for his decision.

Despite being the de facto spokesperson for the PGA Tour for the past two years, the four-time major champion said he needs more time to focus on his golf, family, and his new business ventures.

“There’s only so many hours in the day and so many days in the week and I’ve got a lot going on in my life right now,” McIlroy said at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. “Between trying to be a world-class golfer and a good husband and a good father. I’ve got a growing investment portfolio that’s taking up more of my time.”

Spieth will be a part of the PGA Tour’s player government for the first time since 2021. He joins with just over a month remaining before the Dec. 31 deadline for the a definitive agreement with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, the backer of LIV Golf.
