It’s only Thursday morning, but this year’s British Open is already beating up the best professional golfers in the world: Rickie Fowler carded an 8 on the 18th hole, Wyndham Clark nearly whiffed a shot from the tall grass, and Lucas Herbert lost a share of the lead after a triple-bogey disaster on No. 17.

The list goes on.

Justin Thomas had a similar moment at Royal Liverpool during the first round of the Open, but the two-time PGA champion’s blunder was far more relatable.

TV cameras showed Thomas chipping from the opposite side of one of Hoylake’s nasty pot bunkers on the first hole of the championship. He only had a few feet of room to land his shot on the green, but Thomas missed that area completely.

Instead, he hit the chip directly into the face of the bunker staring at him, and to Thomas’s dismay, his ball immediately plopped down into the pot bunker.

Nothing beats watching Open Championship golf because now Justin Thomas is officially "one of us.”
