DORAL, Fla. — The LIV Golf League’s season-ending Team Championship has a few new wrinkles in its second year, with the basic premise still seeing the top four teams competing for the overall title on Sunday in the $50 million event at the Blue Monster course.

The top four teams in the season-long points race have byes and will sit out Friday’s quarterfinal matchups that will include three matches: a head-to-head singles match between captains, another singles match between two other players, and a foursomes match consisting of two players each from each team.

That means three points are available per match, with the team that wins two points advancing to Saturday’s semifinals against the top four teams that are sitting out Friday.

All 12 teams compete in Sunday’s stroke-play final but only the top four are competing for the overall prize, with those who made it to Saturday competing for spots five through eight and the others for spots nine through 12.

The winning team receives $14 million and payouts go down to $1.25 million for last place. The team keeps 60 percent of the payout with each player getting 10 percent individually.

In the captains' matches on Friday, Phil Mickelson (HyFlyers) will take on Brooks Koepka (Crushers); Cam Smith (Ripper) plays against Martin Kaymer (Cleeks); Sergio Garcia (Fireballs) takes on Henrik Stenson (Majesticks) and Louis Oosthuizen (Stinger) takes on Kevin Na (Iron Heads).

The captains of the top four seeds will play Saturday against those who advance: Dustin Johnson (4Aces), Bryson DeChambeau (Crushers), Joaquin Niemann (Torque) and Bubba Watson (RangeGoats).

After two days of match play, all 48 players will play on Sunday and all four scores from each team count toward the team title.
