DORAL, Fla. — Official details are expected next week, but LIV Golf officials confirmed Thursday that its LIV Golf Promotions event will take place Dec. 8-10 in Abu Dhabi.

The event, which will have a $1.5 million purse, will be a way for players to earn one of three spots in the 2024 LIV Golf League.

Gary Davidson, the acting COO for LIV Golf, said the event would take players from around the world based on various criteria, including two world ranking systems that are not the Official World Golf Ranking. Last week, the OWGR denied LIV Golf’s application for world ranking points.

The field size is yet to be determined but it will be comprised of the four players who were relegated from this year’s LIV Golf season (Sihwan Kim, Chase Koepka, Jediah Morgan and James Piot), the second through 32nd players on the final International Series Order of Merit, those among the top 20 in the World Amateur Ranking and other ranking systems.

Players who compete will get a minimum of $5,000 so it there will be restrictions on who can enter. There will be an 18-hole round on Friday with players advancing to another 18-hole round Saturday that will lead into Sunday’s 36-hole final with just 20 players.
