LIV Golf Leaderboard: Dustin Johnson Fires First-Round 64 at U.S. Open

Seven of 15 LIV golfers in the field at Los Angeles Country Club shot under par in a day ripe for scoring.

LOS ANGELES — On a day with record-breaking scoring at Los Angeles Country Club, Dustin Johnson got off to a good start in pursuit of a second U.S. Open title.

Johnson, who won in 2016 at Oakmont, shot 6-under 64 to trail leaders Rickie Fowler and Xander Schauffele by two. The two native Californians set U.S. Open records with 8-under 62s.

Johnson also came in as the lowest of 15 LIV players Thursday, three shots ahead of 2020 U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau, who shot 67.

The LIV contingent came to season's third major around a different climate in the sport, as last week PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan announced a proposed alliance.

The low 60 players and ties qualify for the weekend.
