Branden Grace Sets LIV Scoring Record, Dustin Johnson Gets Hot in Tulsa
The first round of LIV Golf’s Tulsa event at Cedar Ridge Country Club finished with South Africa’s Branden Grace at the top of the individual leaderboard with a bogey free, 9-under 61.
The score is the lowest round recorded at any tournament so far on the Saudi-backed golf league. At LIV’s Adelaide event, Talor Gooch shot a 10-under 62, but Grace’s 61 is the first in LIV’s short history.
In the team competition, Grace’s Stingers GC leads by six shots at 17 under.
Two-time major champion Dustin Johnson also got off to a fiery start on Friday afternoon, shooting a 7-under 63—matched by Brendan Steele—which put him in a tie for second place. Next week, Johnson and 18 other LIV players will head to Oak Hill Country Club for the PGA Championship.
Johnson’s round included nine birdies and two bogeys, on the 4th and 6th holes. He birdied five holes in a row in his final six holes to post the low number for the 4Aces.
The name of another major champion, Cameron Smith, is up at the top of the leaderboard as well with a 6-under 64.
Matthew Wolff posted the lowest score of LIV’s Oklahoma State University alums. He posted a 4-under 66.
