LIV Golf's Louis Oosthuizen Withdraws from 2023 Masters With Injury
AUGUSTA, Ga. - Louis Oosthuizen withdrew from the 2023 Masters Saturday morning, citing an injury.
Oosthuizen shot an opening-round 76 and was 3-over in his second round when the horn blew Friday afternoon. He needed to complete only the 18th hole on Saturday to make his second round official, where he'd have no chance to make the cut. The Saturday weather is cool and rainy, and the high temperatures are expected to be in the low 50s. Oosthuizen has said previously that he's battled elbow problems for the better part of three years and wore an elbow brace while playing this week.
Oosthuizen has competed in 14 previous Masters and finished runner-up in 2012 and 2014. That 2012 edition featured Oosthuizen's famous sudden-death playoff loss to Bubba Watson.
Oosthuizen has at least one runner-up in each of the four majors. He won the British Open in 2010.
He joined LIV Golf last summer and has competed in each of the new tour's events in 2023, finishing fourth at its Tucson event, and 42nd out of 48 players in the other two tournaments. In Tucson he revealed that he was diagnosed with a torn elbow tendon last December.
Oosthuizen follows Kevin Na as the second LIV Golfer to withdraw from the 2023 Masters. There are now 16 LIV Golfers left in the field, though several are projected to miss the cut when the second round is officially completed.
Brooks Koepka, also a LIV golfer, currently leads the tournament at 12 under par.
