Ludvig Åberg has made a caddie switch ahead of the 2024 season.

The 23-year-old Swede is adding Joe Skovron to his team. Skovron is best known for his 13 seasons caddying for six-time PGA Tour winner Rickie Fowler, and he has most recently been looping for Tom Kim. Skovron helped the South Korean breakout star clinch back-to-back wins at the Shriners Children’s Open. It's unclear who Kim will use as his caddie going forward.

Golf Channel first reported the news of Aberg’s switch after the Grant Thornton Invitational. Aberg’s former caddie, Jack Clarke, is engaged to LPGA player Madelene Sagstrom, who teamed up with Aberg in the mixed-gender event and shot a 12-under 60 in the final round. Sagstrom informed Golf Channel’s Amy Rogers that the tournament was Clarke’s last with Aberg.

Since turning professional in June, Aberg has soared up the Official World Golf rankings, from 3064th to 32nd (and 44th in the SI World Golf Rankings). In just six months, the Texas Tech product has won twice, at the Omega European Masters and the RSM Classic. He has been repeatedly lauded by pros for his wildly consistent and powerful drives. Even Rory McIlroy was stunned by the effortless control in Aberg’s move.

“Everyone talks about what a great driver of the golf ball he is...which he is. The ball-striking is incredible,” McIlroy said. “But I was really impressed with his wedge play and how he can sort of control his trajectory with shorter clubs. I was on the bandwagon before. Certainly at the front of it now.”

Additionally, Aberg was selected by captain Luke Donald to be a part of the 2023 European Ryder Cup team, where he captured 2 points during the European team's win at Marco Simone.

In Rome Aberg became the subject of a mind-boggling statistic: He was the first player to participate in a Ryder Cup before playing in a major championship. That gap in his resume will be filled in due time. When Aberg finally arrives at Augusta National this spring, he’ll have one of the most experienced caddies in the game by his side: Skovron has looped in more than 50 major championships.
