Max Homa might not have been in contention on Sunday at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, but his tee shot on the 15th hole gave him something to smile about.

Homa, who shot a 5-under 67 in heavy rain at Detroit Golf Club, didn’t even watch the entirety of his shot on the par-3 15th, but the crowd reaction gave away the incredible result.

“I guess the excitement of the ‘oh’ to the roar is quite cool and I’ll take it, but one day I’d like to see the thing go in so I can freak out myself,” Homa joked after the completion of the round.

Homa’s ball landed less than 10 feet past the pin on the 140-yard hole and quickly spun back on a perfect line. It was the six-time PGA Tour’s winner’s second hole-in-one on Tour.

The best part of the shot, however, might have been Homa’s reaction when he finally realized the ball went in.

Casually flicking his tee into the air shortly after the booming roar, Homa perfectly executed golf’s take on the “mic drop.”

“I missed every seven- to 12-footer of the week, so decided just to aim closer to the hole,” Homa said. “It was like a perfect pitching wedge. It was like if it landed short, I thought it would skip forward. If it landed where it did, it should get close. I made a good swing on it. Couldn’t see it. I made two out here now. Couldn’t see either of them, so one day I’d like to see it go in. But it’s cool to hear the roar, especially on that hole. That hole’s awesome, so it was fun.”

With a tournament total of 15 under, Homa likely will finish inside the top 20 for the 13th time this PGA Tour season.
