PGA Championship Forecast Includes Frigid Mornings and Weekend Rain for Oak Hill

Like the first major this year, the second figures to have weather playing a factor.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – There was a run on ski caps and warm-weather accessories on Wednesday at Oak Hill Country Club.

And while temperatures are expected to be warmer at the PGA Championship begins on Thursday, weather is sure to be an issue at some points during the tournament.

The Masters saw plenty of cold temperatures and rain last month at Augusta National, and there could be some of each here this week.

Players who arrived early to practice Wednesday were greeted by temperatures in the high 30s with wind-chill temperatures approaching freezing conditions. The high temperature never got much above 50 degrees.

Several players reduced practice due to it. Some played just nine holes or limited their work to the driving range.

Wind is expected for Thursday’s opening round with the possibility of a frost delay. Temperatures are expected to get into the 60s with the best forecast for the week coming on Friday when it will rise into the 70s.

But there is an 80 percent chance of rain of Saturday, when temperatures will be cool in the morning. For now, Sunday appears to be fine, with low temperatures in the 40s but sunny and a high in the low 70s.
