The PGA Tour is Adding a New Stop in Myrtle Beach in 2024
The PGA Tour’s new structure and schedule are continuing to take shape as the 2024 season approaches, and that evolution now includes the addition of a new event: the Myrtle Beach Classic.
According to a PGA Tour announcement on Wednesday, the Myrtle Beach Classic will take place at The Dunes Golf and Beach Club, a 1948 Robert Trent Jones design that has previously hosted the Champions Tour and PGA Tour Q-School.
The dates of the tournament have not yet been announced, but the purse is set to be $3.9 million for a full-field event, with 300 FedExCup points reserved for the eventual winner.
The event will join the RBC Heritage as the Tour’s second South Carolina stop in 2024. According to the release, the Myrtle Beach tournament will take place at the same time as a “designated” event, meaning that it will likely include players outside the top 60-80 on the FedEx Cup points list.
“We are thrilled to announce the debut of the Myrtle Beach Classic, an exciting new playing opportunity for our members in one of our country’s most recognized and visited destinations,” said Tyler Dennis, president of the PGA Tour. “With its incredible passion for golf, the Myrtle Beach community is a natural fit to bring this tournament to life. We look forward to partnering with Visit Myrtle Beach for a first-class tournament at a championship venue in Dunes Golf and Beach Club.”
At a ceremony on Wednesday at Dunes Golf and Beach Club, a four-year contract was announced for the establishment of the event.
