Play at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am has been suspended due to high winds.

The third round will resume on Sunday at 8:00 a.m. PT, and tournament officials have announced that the final round will be professionals only. The top 65 players and ties will compete in the fourth round, and amateurs are not required to return to the course to finish their third rounds. The Pro-Am team winners will be decided after 54 holes. Professionals will finish their final rounds on Monday, as 72 holes will not be completed by sunset on Sunday.

Sunset is 5:37 p.m. PT and sunrise is at 7:06 a.m. PT at Pebble Beach. Saturday’s round kicked off early at 7:30 a.m. in accordance with the forecasts.

According to the CBS broadcast, the extreme weather caused resting balls to move, specifically on the ninth green at Monterey Peninsula Country Club’s Shore Course. Monterey Peninsula is one of three courses hosting the Pro-Am event this week, in addition to Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spyglass Hill Golf Course. Play was suspended at 12:12 p.m. PT at Monterey Peninsula and 12:20 p.m. PT at Pebble Beach and Spyglass.

“Over at Monterey Peninsula Country Club, number nine specifically is our hole that we’re having a hard time dealing with right now. We can’t keep the ball at rest on the putting green there,” Mark Dusbabek, CBS’s Senior Director of Rules and Video Analysis, said.

“To make it equitable for all the golf courses, we played it a little bit longer here, a little bit longer at Spyglass, but now we’ve gotten to a point where we can’t make it fair for everybody at all the different golf courses. So we’re going to have to suspend, bring the players in, and get an updated weather forecast.”

A meteorologist told Sports Illustrated that 35 mph wind gusts were recorded at Pebble Beach, and that winds likely reached higher speeds at Monterey Peninsula, but there is no meteorologist on site at that venue.

Zac Blair, who was in the middle of his round at Pebble Beach when play was suspended, took to Twitter to express his frustration with the timing of the decision. According to Blair, the course conditions had been harsh for some time already.

This story will be updated to reflect new developments in the forecast.
