While Rickie Fowler let out a sigh of relief on the 18th green at Detroit Golf Club, the entire golf community unleashed a collective roar.

One of the most beloved players on the PGA Tour, Fowler had finally ended his four-year long winless drought with a birdie on the first sudden-death playoff hole at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Fans surrounding the green made their support for Fowler known, but so did those who weren’t present on Sunday in Michigan.

Justin Thomas—one of Fowler’s closest friends—was perhaps the first PGA Tour player to acknowledge the Oklahoma State product’s long-awaited win via social media.

Thomas missed the cut by five shots on Friday, but he still tuned in to watch Fowler clinch his sixth PGA Tour victory.

The only predicament was that Thomas, along with the rest of the golf world, had to watch the final round on streaming platforms rather than cable TV due to weather shifting the broadcast schedule.

In addition to Thomas, several other PGA Tour players took to Twitter to congratulate Fowler on the breakthrough victory.

Golf media members and fans naturally joined in, giving Fowler the social media attention that he very much deserves.
