The 2023 Ryder Cup is officially here, and players from both Team USA and Team Europe have touched down in Rome to prepare for the intense week ahead. One of those competitors who was spotted playing an early-week practice round at Marco Simone was world No. 2 Rory McIlroy

Sporting his legendary hatless Ryder Cup look, a fan captured the Northern Irishman hitting from the venue’s signature thick rough just about 30 yards from the green.

McIlroy tossed his ball high into the air with the perfect flop-shot technique. Judging by the audio of the clip, spectators knew they had a highlight on their hands the moment he made contact.

With a twirl of his club, McIlroy watched as his ball hit the putting surface and trickled into the cup.

The shot was glorious in itself, but it was made even better when McIlroy launched into a double-fist-pump celebration.

Shaking his fists and head vigorously, the four-time major champion gave fans a taste of what his game-time antics might look like come Friday morning.

If the practice round clip is any indication, fans can expect some animated reactions from McIlroy throughout this year’s competition.

McIlroy, 34, will make his seventh appearance on the European team this year. The squad will look to extend a 30-year streak of wins on their home turf.
