Michael Block, the 46-year-old club pro contending at the PGA Championship, is having himself a week at Oak Hill. Block shot three consecutive rounds of 70 to put himself in a tie for 8th place after Round 3, and his stellar performance naturally led to a final-round pairing for the ages.

Block, who qualified for the tournament by placing T2 at the 2023 PGA Professional Championship, will play on Sunday with the No. 3 player in the world (No. 3 SIWGR), Rory McIlroy.

On Friday, Block was asked for his live reaction to the fact that the world No. 1, Jon Rahm, was six shots behind him on the PGA Championship leaderboard. The realization nearly brought him to tears, as he thought about his students back home at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Viejo, Calif.

Earlier in that very interview, Block had mentioned the possibility of playing with Rahm or McIlroy.

Someone had to get his live thoughts on his dream pairing becoming a reality, and the result was as expected, incredible.

Turning away from the camera, Block was in disbelief.

“You serious?,” he said. “Wow, that’s going to be fun. We’re going to have a good time. Really? Oh boy.”

What’s even better than Block’s instinctual reaction, however, is that McIlroy himself saw the club pro’s latest viral moment and left a classy comment on the PGA Tour’s Instagram post.

“Looking forward to it, Michael,” the four-time major champion wrote.
