World golf No. 1 Scottie Scheffler came into the second round of the British Open at 1 under par, but he struggled mightily on Friday afternoon at Royal Liverpool.

Through 17 holes, Scheffler was at 4 over on the leaderboard, having bogeyed six holes with just one birdie on his scorecard. With the cut line set at 3 over, Scheffler entered the par-5 18th hole needing a birdie to secure his place for the weekend.

The world No. 1 found himself in the pot bunker by the green for his third shot on 18, and since he needed to get up-and-down, the pressure was on to get it out of the steep sand. Scheffler not only got the ball out, but almost holed out for an eagle, leaving himself with a reasonable birdie putt.

After such a tough round, Scheffler reacted in celebration to his bunker shot, putting his arms in the air to garner a reaction from the crowd.

Not only did Scheffler get into the weekend, he also made another cut, keeping his consecutive cut streak alive. The last time Scheffler missed a cut in any tournament was on August 14, 2022, marking 22 straight tournaments of making the cut.

Even if Scheffler is too far back to catch leader Brian Harman at 10 under, he still has a chance to continue another streak. This year, Scheffler has finished in the top 12 in every tournament he’s played, and this birdie on 18 keeps the possibility of another top 12 finish alive.
