Devilish pot bunkers and swirling winds are torturing the world’s best golfers at the British Open. The proper test of Royal Liverpool has made a fool of many of the stars of the game this week, and naturally, frustrations are starting to boil over.

Shane Lowry demonstrated the most jarring example of such exasperation on Friday afternoon when cameras showed a slow-motion shot of him walking down the fairway in dismay.

The Irishman bowed his head to the ground, but what he did next was the tell-tale sign of his disappointment.

Lowry lifted his iron over his neck and promptly snapped it in half.

Lowry might be a former Champion Golfer of the Year, but he won’t have the chance to contend for the title this week at Royal Liverpool. The 36-year-old dropped 43 places on the leaderboard on Friday after carding two bogeys and a double in his final nine holes.
