SI World Golf Rankings: Nick Taylor Celebrates For All of Canada
Nick Taylor has had the look of a rising star for a while, but with his dramatic playoff win at the RBC Canadian Open, he's fully arrived. The new Sports Illustrated World Golf Rankings have Taylor up 20 spots this week to No. 31 in the world. (He’s 44th in the Official World Golf Rankings.) The SIWGR is our data-driven list of the best men’s players in the game today, and among the differences between our list and the OWGR, we use the most recent 12 months of player results, rather than the OWGR’s 24. Here’s how we do the calculations.
Taylor wasn’t the only player to make a big move in Canada, but the week ahead should have a big impact on our list, as the SIWGR awards extra points for major championship performances. The U.S. Open at L.A. Country Club should be a good one.
Here are some notable risers and fallers on the SI World Golf Rankings.
3 Risers in the SI World Golf Rankings
1
Nick Taylor
This Week: 31
Last Week: 51
Skinny: The Canadian delivered in Canada dropping a 72-foot bomb for eagle in sudden death to clip Tommy Fleetwood (who's up six spots to No. 21 in the SIWGR) and become the first Canadian to win the event in 69 years.
2
Eric Cole
This Week: 86
Last Week: 97
Skinny: Shot the low round of the week, a 63, on Sunday at the Canadian Open to rise into a tie for sixth at the event. Should roll into LACC feeling good, and looks like a bona fide sleeper pick.
3
Aaron Rai
This Week: 90
Last Week: 112
Skinny: Shot Sunday 67 to tie for third in Canada. Like the other players on this list, appears to be heading for a breakthrough.
3 Fallers in this week’s SIWGR
