SI World Golf Rankings: Scottie Scheffler Reclaims No. 1
Scottie Scheffler is man on fire, and he’s returned to the No. 1 spot in the March 13 edition of the SI Golf World Rankings.
After cruising to a five-shot win at the Players Championship on Sunday, Scheffler boasts six PGA Tour titles since his breakthrough victory at the 2022 Phoenix Open. The list:
2022 Phoenix Open
2022 Bay Hill Invitational
2022 Match Play
2022 Masters
2023 Phoenix Open
2023 Players Championship
An eye-popping lineup. Scheffler's win at Sawgrass coupled with Jon Rahm's WD pushed him even farther ahead on our list, which uses the last 12 months of player results in the calculations. (Learn more about our method here.)
Scheffler's move from No. 2 to No. 1 isn’t the largest jump on our list this week but it’s the most significant. Here’s full rundown of notable moves in the new SIWGR.
Three Risers in the New SI World Golf Rankings
Scottie Scheffler
This Week: 1
Last Week: 2
Skinny: Won the Players Championship and surged into the top spot as Jon Rahm withdrew from the event with an illness.
Tyrrell Hatton
This Week: 13
Last Week: 25
Skinny: A solo second at the most loaded field of the year is an effective way to make a big move in the SIWGR.
Viktor Hovland
This Week: 18
Last Week: 31
Skinny: Was due for a good week and a T3 at Sawgrass was a great time for it.
Three Fallers in New SI World Golf Rankings
Anirban Lahiri
Last Week: 37
This Week: 89
Skinny: There was no LIV event last week, so most players on that tour felt the effects. Lahiri finished runner-up at last year’s Players and did not enter this year as he’s now part of LIV Golf. His points from that 2022 runner-up finish also just fell off our rankings calculations, as SIWGR only uses the most recent 12 months of finishes, resulting in his pronounced fall in our ranking.
Harold Varner III
Last Week: 63
This Week: 82
Skinny: Like Lahiri, Varner is now on LIV and just lost his own T6 result from last year’s Players from his calculation.
Kevin Kisner
Last Week: 50
This Week: 68
Skinny: Tied for fourth at last year’s Players, which just fell off his list of points earned toward our calculations. Made the cut this year at Sawgrass but finished 75th.
