The eighth installment of Capital One’s The Match is right around the corner, and the 2023 edition of the live golf series will feature NFL superstars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce and NBA standouts Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson

Mahomes and Kelce, two-time Super Bowl winners with the Chiefs, and Curry and Thompson, four-time NBA champions with the Warriors, will face off in a 12-hole competition at the Wynn Golf Club in Las Vegas.

Last June, the Wynn hosted the only other edition of The Match that did not include professional golfers: Mahomes and Josh Allen lost to Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady. Curry, along with Mahomes, has appeared in the franchise before. In 2020, the two-time NBA MVP teamed up with Peyton Manning to face off against Charles Barkley and Phil Mickelson in Arizona.

Both of the teams in the 2023 installment of the exhibition series have elite chemistry. Known as the “Splash Brothers,” Curry and Thompson have combined for more than 5,600 three-pointers in their careers. Curry broke the all-time three-point record in December 2022.

Meanwhile, Mahomes and Kelce have played five seasons together in Kansas City and have already connected for 48 touchdowns, 14 of those coming in the playoffs. They are one shy of Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski’s record (15). After both of their Super Bowl victories, Mahomes was named the game’s MVP.

The first edition of The Match featured a head-to-head 18-hole competition between Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. The most recent installment was in December 2022, where Woods teamed up with Rory McIlroy and were defeated by Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas.
