The U.S. Ryder Cup Team Trolled Justin Thomas After Texas’ Win Over Alabama

Scottie Scheffler, a former Longhorn, couldn’t resist rubbing in his team’s victory over Thomas’ alma mater.

The U.S. Ryder Cup team hopped on a flight to Rome for a quick pre-tournament scouting trip over the weekend, but the visit happened to overlap with a high-stakes college football game for some members of the squad.

The Texas vs. Alabama game kicked off at 1 a.m. in Italy, but that didn’t stop Scottie Scheffler, a former Longhorn, and Justin Thomas, a Crimson Tide alum, from watching the game live along with the rest of the U.S. team.

Naturally, when Quinn Ewers and the 11th-ranked Longhorns upset Alabama (No. 4) in Tuscaloosa, Scheffler had to rub salt in his U.S. teammate’s wound.

Max Homa joined in to facilitate the trolling, posting a photo of Scheffler and Thomas that encapsulates emotions on all sides of the spectrum.

Scheffler is clearly elated. JT’s expression speaks for itself.

Brooks Koepka added to the fun (or misery, depending on how you look at it), and posted a caption-less Instagram story of Thomas’ blank post-game stare.

Jordan Spieth couldn’t make it to the Marco Simone practice session, as his wife Annie is pregnant. But being the other Longhorn product on the U.S. team, he couldn’t resist chiming in.

Spieth simply retweeted Homa’s post with the caption, “Retweet,” but the brief message was all he needed to add some fuel to the fire.

We’re happy to see that the U.S. team is spending long days—and nights—together ahead of the biennial competition against Team Europe. But for the country’s sake, we hope Thomas got a kick out of the jabs and resumed business-as-usual in the morning.
