Two Brothers Battle in PGA Tour Monday Qualifier Playoff, One Survives

Monday qualifiers on the PGA Tour never lack drama.

Monday qualifier entrants have the rare opportunity to play their way into top-tier fields with just one low round. The suspenseful one-day events send four deserving players to that week’s PGA Tour event. Once a player has survived a Monday qualifier, there’s nothing stopping them from earning a sizable paycheck and putting together a life-changing tournament performance.

This week’s Monday qualifier for the Wyndham Championship (the PGA Tour’s last regular season event of 2023) was exhilarating for all of those reasons, and one more: The 18-hole round resulted in a six-for-three playoff that included two brothers.

Wesley Bryan and George Bryan are a pair of brothers who once appeared on Golf Channel’s Big Break and now operate a YouTube Channel and several social media handles around their content brand, Bryan Bros Golf.

Wesley, George, and four other players shot rounds of 66 at Bermuda Run CC in Bermuda Run, N.C., and were promptly sent into a sudden-death playoff. Three men would earn spots in the PGA Tour event, and three would walk away with nothing.

The content that resulted from the unlikely scenario (courtesy of the Bryan brothers themselves and Monday Qualifier Twitter expert Ryan French) had the internet on the edge of their seats.

Ultimately, both brothers couldn’t make it through to this week’s event at Sedgefield Country Club.

Wesley, who has already made 13 starts this season and won on the PGA Tour back in 2016, survived the playoff along with Joey Lane and Tommy Gainey.

“Well, one of us had to win and one of us had to lose—well, I guess theoretically, both could have won, both could have lost, six-for-three playoff,” Wesley said on his Instagram story. “Unfortunately, George did not make it through, fortunately, I did make it through. Sorry George, still love you, but I’m still going to try to beat you until the day I die. In everything.”

George hasn’t been on the professional golf grind like his brother has lately, but he recently announced some exciting news: George has signed up for PGA Tour Q-School and will attempt to earn his card this fall through the multi-stage tournament series.
