The LIV golfer has a reasonable explanation for why he wore shades on Saturday.

Saturday’s third round of the 2023 PGA Championship was contested amid rainy conditions for the majority of the day at Oak Hill, causing players to adjust their attire as they tried to stay as comfortable as possible.

One of Phil Mickelson’s fashion choices confused fans, though. The two-time PGA Championship winner sported sunglasses throughout the entirety of his round despite the rainy conditions.

As fans and golf media reacted to Mickelson’s shades, the LIV golfer replied to a tweet from Kyle Porter of CBS Sports explaining why the sunglasses never came off.

“They are light enhancement glasses that are made for overcast and rainy days,” Mickelson tweeted. “They add light, helps to read greens, and protects from wind and rain drops. They’re not for everybody. In fact, not many people even know of them.”

The sunglasses didn’t seem to help Mickelson too much during his third round, as he shot 5-over on Saturday to put him at 10-over for the tournament entering Sunday’s final round.
